Il Castello Di Perchia

Set among the Umbrian hills, in a succession of colors and scents of nature, among woods and olive groves, in an environment that speaks of silence and harmony; of nature and countryside. Just 8 km from Spoleto, relaxation is assured in a home steeped in the history and culture of an ancient world, which perhaps no longer exists but which in a certain sense still lives.

In one word, the Castello di Perchia, an ancient fortress that was also a convent and which today has become a historic residence made up of residences and apartments with attention to the smallest detail.

A “castrum” dating back to the fourteenth century also known as “Villa di San Giovanni di Panaria” due to the church located 200 meters below the castle, and built, according to the fascinating legend, by the bishop of Spoleto.

The “castrum” takes you back to a fairytale setting, made of tranquility and precious moments. The Castello di Perchia speaks of history but also of family, that of Nadia and Sonia and their ancestors who already landed at the castle in 1800, what today is unique: a small walled nucleus that forms a quadrilateral crossed by an avenue on which the various apartments overlook. A sort of small village where the external walls protect the whole building. There are three entrances to the castle, formerly guarded by huge doors.

A restoration started in 1985, born from the desire to recover an estate where most of the family lived to make it a holiday residence, adapted by the owners and which since 2014 welcomes guests from all over the world who choose it to enjoy the peace of a place that speaks of uniqueness. Wooden, brick and terracotta beams of the time, external stone facades and small windows recovered from the ancient sighting slits. And then more furniture that dates back to the period between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, books from the sixteenth century, a collection of keys, amphorae and coins found during the restoration, bricks with engraved dates and a collection of handmade nails.

Seven apartments for now which, for next year, will be nine. Independent residences of various sizes depending on the needs, from very large rooms to more intimate solutions, all equipped with kitchen and internal bathrooms. A large and panoramic terrace, a salt water swimming pool and welcoming outdoor areas with barbecue, tables and gazebos where you can have meals outdoors. These are the common areas available to guests such as the catering service with home delivery of meals, from breakfast to dinner. And then the inevitable dinners that the owners and their families organize for evenings with a healthy family spirit.

A visit to the garden to pick seasonal vegetables and fruits, a look at the tiny farm and a mini tour of the approximately 500 olive trees surrounding the property, from which a refined oil is produced that is always offered to guests. And then again agreements with the main sites of interest such as the Marmore Falls, shuttle service to the airport and railway stations, walks, bike tours that can also be rented in the structure, excursions and guides in the Umbrian wineries for a culinary journey between local wines and products.
